How can art therapy help?
Through the use of art making, discussions and reflections on the art work and relationship building, art therapy can;
-
Enable self-expression and communication; a picture can be used to depict experiences which are 'hard to put ito words' and can assist where verbal communication is difficult for whatever reason.
-
Improve confidence and self-esteem and a sense of identity.
-
Help contain difficult, unmanageable feelings.
-
Increase insight and self-awareness.
-
Promote choice and independence and a sense of control.
-
Help identify coping strategies and encourage resilience and psychological well-being.
-
Help to process traumatic experiences.
-
Help reduce stress and anxiety and enhance inter-personal skills.
